Phi Kappa Phi Dissertation Fellowship Application Deadline Is Fast Approaching
The country’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, is currently accepting applications for its 2018 Dissertation Fellowship Program, according to a recent press release. The last day to submit an application is November 30, 2017. In this program, ten fellowships of $10,000 each will be awarded in 2018 to active members who are doctoral candidates who are currently completing their dissertations.
Started in 2014, the Dissertation Fellowship Program of Phi Kappa Phi was designed to give support to doctoral candidates who are in the dissertation writing phase of their academic journey. To be eligible, applicants must be: 1) writing their dissertation, 2) be an active Phi Kappa Phi member, and 3) meet pre-dissertation requirements by November 30 including dissertation proposal approval.
Matthew L. Bush, a 2017 Dissertation Fellow said, “The Phi Kappa Phi Dissertation Fellowship is a prestigious award that I am honored to receive. This fellowship will expand and enrich my opportunities to complete my dissertation research. This investment into my research and scholarly activities will pay great dividends in my aspiration to improve the access to and quality of healthcare.”
The selection process for fellowship applicants includes examining how the fellowship award will contribute to the completion of the student’s dissertation, how significant the original research will be in society, and the endorsement of the dissertation chair. Those selected to receive the $10,000 award will be able to apply it toward 12 months of dissertation writing. Phi Kappa Phi repeats this process each year, giving doctoral candidates the opportunity to pursue their goals and realize their dreams.
Phi Kappa Phi’s Executive Director Dr. Mary Todd said, “Phi Kappa Phi has long been known for supporting graduate students at the beginning of their studies, but only recently have we introduced support at the very end. Crossing that ABD line is critical to a successful academic or professional career, so we are delighted to offer dissertation fellowships to assist Phi Kappa Phi members in reaching the finish line of their doctoral programs.”
Additionally, Phi Kappa Phi awards $1.4 million every two years to students and members who qualify for study abroad grants, member and chapter awards, and other fundings and fellowships.
The deadline to submit an application for Phi Kappa Phi Dissertation Fellowships is November 30, 2017. Recipients will be notified by March 1, 2018. For full eligibility requirements and application instructions, visit www.phikappaphi.org/dissertation.
